A Canberra Glassworks exhibition curated by Ivana Jirasek
11 February 2015 – 16 April 2015
This exhibition explored the rich glass-making and cultural traditions of eight countries through the lens of Australian glass artists.
The artists and their partner countries were:
Helen Aitken-Kuhnen – Japan
Andrew Baldwin – Malta
Erin Conron – Belgium
Ben Edols and Kathy Elliott – Italy
Hannah Gason – France
Elizabeth Kelly – Finland
Lienors Torre – Czech Republic
Klaus Moje AO – United States of America
As curator, I matched artists with an aesthetic connection to a selected country and facilitated liaison with the diplomatic staft, who generously provided guidance and resources.
A number of supporting events brought the project to life. This included floor talks and tours to several Embassies to view their art collections and hear artists’ talk about the unique exchange.
The project was conceived by General Manager Bev Growden and engaged the corresponding Embassies and High Commissions in Canberra as project partners.

Hannah Gason's Window I and II - pate-de-verre creations inspired by the French artist Decorchemont, who experimented with the technique in the early 1900s, applying it to stained glass windows.

As a curator of the 2015 Emerging Artists Program at Culture at Work, I have worked with artist Liz Shreeve to help shape her exhibition, and support her to the launch event on 19 May 2015.
Liz partnered with Associate Professor Leon Poladian from the University of Sydney (School of Mathematics and Statistics), to explore new directions in her paper sculptures.
These paper constructions explored the interactions of geometric patterns, as well as shadow and light. They take mathematical principles as a starting point.
I attended and presented at the 2002 ICOM Glass Committee in Prague, with a grant from the Australia Council for the Arts.
